Monaro High School hosts Christine Anu – In Conversation and Song

Monaro High School was incredibly lucky to host one of Australia’s most prominent Indigenous artists for her locally touring solo show titled ‘In Conversation and song’.

The whole school, plus others from neighbouring primary schools and even some parents who are big fans, came for the intimate show.

Christine told us stories about her life as a child in the Torres Strait and even taught us some traditional language through song. Student’s were so hyped to be able to take a picture with her and thank her for coming to our school, and couldn’t stop singing her songs such as ‘My Island Home’ and ‘Taba Naba’, which she debuted on the children’s tv show The Wiggles.

Thank you so much for your performance, Christine. Not only did you teach our Indigenous students the importance of culture and the preservation of traditional language, but you were able to reach the whole school community through song. We are truly inspired! Thanks again!
